Fairytales in Craft

During July and August 2016 we made a pilot version of the Fairytales in Craft project, which in part was funded by Västra Götalandsregionen. As the response from children and their grown-ups was very positive, and we discovered many unexpected aspects, it is our wish to further develop and investigate certain parts of the project. More information and video/photo documentation about the pilot can be found on our website. We called the production Mytheriet. Through the pilot, we developed two different programs, which are now basis for further development: Storytelling+making sessions, for kids aged 4-7.

We created a space called Shipyard: a designated play and making area. With the help of workshop leader, children engage in a story which acts as a trigger for various activities: making, discovering hidden treasures or further storytelling. Expedition+making sessions, for kids aged 6-11. For this activity, we built a dreamworld, a storytelling environment, through which we let children go on ”expeditions” with two actors accompanying them. The Expedition ends in the Shipyard where the impressions turns into expression.

Here kids kan play, make and tell stories., and it has immense possibilities. Mytheriet is based in Långeds Mekaniska building in Dals Långed. The building is owned by Bengtsfors kommun, which is very supportive of the project and is willing to continue to cover the rent for the building, as they have done during the pilot. Our long-term dream is developing a child-oriented community and research center, with firm roots in craft as a defining element of the cultural identity of Dals Långed.
